Major sporting events are the highlight of the year for many thousands of fans, so it is essential to have a power contractor you can rely on.
Taking place at a different venue every year, The Open Golf Championship is the largest annual one-off live broadcast installation, and requires some 2 megawatts of synchronized power to supply the BBC and its worldwide colleagues – a challenge that Powerline have met every year since our initial contract in 2004.
The Ryder Cup in 2002 (The Belfry), and 2006 (The K Club, Co. Kildare), allowed us to expand our capabilities, and source or create ever-more specialised equipment. This continued association with the Ryder Cup has seen The Powerline return to each of the European legs, supplying events held at The Celtic Manor (Wales) in 2010, Gleneagles, (Scotland) in 2014 and Le Golf National (France) in 2018. In 2019, we installed and maintaned electrical supplies for the broadcast compound to The Open, held in Portrush (Ireland).
With all sporting fixtures halted or held behind closed doors in 2020, we have worked closely with the European Tour to deliver mission critical supplies across all 9 of their UK based events. From the 6 swing events, through to the BMW Championship held at the prestigious Wentworth Golf Club, our dedicated team has been on hand to adapt to the ever changing demands of events, during this unprecedented year. As requirements have changed, from medical requirements through to the viability of public attendance, the team have embraced the dynamic nature of these events, and delivered excellence throughout.
Our rolling investment strategy has allowed us to further our partnership with Film and Television Services, and supply to large broadcast compounds, including those installed for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, UEFA Champions League Finals in Manchester (2003) and Wembley (2011, 2013), and the annual Oxford / Cambridge Boat Race since 2005.
During the busy football season, Powerline’s bespoke truck-mounted twin sets regularly power outside broadcast units at English and Welsh Premiership grounds.
